October Days

We enjoyed all of the fall activities this year, visiting Jim Brown’s Farm in the Los Ranchos area. We walked through the pumpkin patch, debating which pumpkins were coming home with us, and wandered around the many stalls and vendors. One of the best parts was seeing kids selling handmade crafts, where I bought a beautiful pair of fall leaf earrings.

We looked at the different chiles and jars of honey, and then made our way over to watch the sheep enjoy eating some old pumpkins. It was the perfect place to wear my pumpkin patch sweater by Meghan Regan, which I held both Berroco alpaca for the main body, and scrap Malabrigo yarn for the stranded colorwork.

We continued to enjoy the fall, but this time up in the Sandias, with great views of the foliage. Fall hiking in Albuquerque never lasts long, making it especially worth it when all of the beautiful colors show up. The leaves turn yellow and warm. Tony wore the Halloween cat hat that I knit, which is made from leftover Berroco alpaca yarn from the pumpkin sweater, in addition to some black Cascade 220. It’s a silly knit, but we love wearing it every fall season.

Next year we’re hoping to visit Santa Fe’s aspen trail, where all of the trees turn golden along the scenic highway up to the Ski area. Another area we hope to check out is the Monzano wilderness area, which seems to have beautiful reds and orange foliage in the fall.
